The Carrier Performance Series Air Conditioner/Heat Pump XHB153D is the ideal solution for unheated rooms that require supplementary heating in cool seasons and cooling in warm seasons. It can handle a large space, such as a finished attic or basement of up to 1600 square feet, assuming the space is insulated. The unit has a good efficiency rating of 10.2 EER and very good sound control. The control panel, concealed for a clean uncluttered look, includes an automatic thermostat, three speeds for cooling, two speeds for heating, and an energy saver switch (that causes the compressor and fan to cycle on and off together rather than allowing the fan to run continuously). The XHB153D also has six-way air flow control, exhaust control, and can remove up to 4.3 pints of moisture per hour--a real bonus for basement applications. The unit is quite heavy at 121 pounds, so plan on having help installing it. It comes with a slide-out chassis to make installation easier and safer. Keep in mind that this product will require you to run a 230-volt line if you do not already have one.
